I believe very strongly that as long as you follow your interest and passion your career will turn out great.
When I started my studies I followed my dad´s advise on what was a “good, strategic choice for the future”. It was not aligned to what I liked or what I wanted to do at that stage but the plan was that it would lead to something good in the future. It was horrible and I changed direction as soon as I could.
Since then I have always done what I am interested in and that has given me that extra energy when things are hard. Work will sometimes be long hours, stressful and can even be boring at times but as long as you work with something you are interested in you will get that extra energy.
When you follow you interest your career might not look like a straight logic line but there will be a clear thread – the tread of fun and opportunities that are aligned to your passion and values.
When you do something that you like it is also easier to be brave, to take on new challenges and to broaden your horizon. For me it has also been a great help to get inspired by people that I admire. To listen to them, see how/what they do, and to learn from them.
So my advise is to start with your passion and build from there – not the other way around!
