I didn’t know it would be a fit, I just knew I was eager to learn and wanted to try something new.

I’m currently a Degree Apprentice, doing the Digital & Technology Solutions – Cyber Security Analyst Pathway at IBM. My high school emphasised university, and I just didn’t think it was for me. I didn’t like the idea of sitting in long lectures and then following the more conventional route into my career, I wanted something a bit more exciting and flexible. I found out that IBM offers a degree apprenticeship scheme where I can work and learn for a degree at the same time.

So… how did I know a Degree Apprenticeship and my role would be right for me?

I felt it would push me further than full-time education and give more insights than I could have had in a lecture theatre – and it has. Regarding my role, I just wanted to learn and soak up the experience, and I’ve been given an amazing insight into the road ahead, allowing me to investigate different careers (and ask LOTS of questions) with my peers and mentors. You don’t have to know it’s right, just if you’re willing to give it a go – you’ll never know if you don’t try!
